We moved our family to Traverse City from Troy MI in 2002, and never looked back. While Rick commuted back south for several years, Sue and their sons ran a meat market in Elk Rapids. This is where son Dan first learned to cut meat.
The meat market experience lasted a short time as we built a new building, and The Elk Rapids Wine Shop was born. The wine shop grew to be a successful business with a good local following that enabled us to stay open all year round. We sold our baby in 2011. Fast forward to being customers of Bayside Market, and thinking that it would be fun to bring some of our ideas from the wine shop to a great business.
When the previous owners were ready to pass the reins on, our family was a good fit to keep the traditions of the market alive. As the parents of the group, Rick and Sue work mostly behind the scenes as they both work other jobs. Rick with Fox Motors as a regional Manager, and Sue as a closer for real estate transactions. As they help to "direct the ship," son Dan and his wife Kim are the ones to greet you on a daily basis. Sons Rob and Mike love to give their input on ideas.
Our goal is to give you, our customer, a great experience. Whether it be a fantastic steak and helpful hints on how to prepare it, or one of our Meals-to-Go for those nights you don't want to cook, or a deli full of quality meats and cheeses. Don't forget that great bottle of wine to complement your meal at an awesome value.
Hope to see you soon!
